Save $1000 a Year for Free
Maverick Money Makers Are Actually Making Money and Buying What They Want
Maverick Money Makers
There are several ways to save close to $1000 a year. Many people simply do not take advantage of these practices and are missing out on some easy techniques. Try to put some of these into practice and use the extra money for necessities such as rent, mortgage, utilities or food. Or use the extra savings for your kid’s college.
Here are the ways to save:
Get a Roommate
Don’t rule out renting an unused room to someone, or if you live alone getting a roommate. Just like commuting to work, getting a roommate will cut back on everyday expenses.
Drive a Stick
Stick shift cars not only save 2-4 gallons a mile in gas over their automatic look alikes but they save about $800 a year on maintenance. Plus, to me, they are just plain more cool!
Stay at Home More
Try to turn off the cell phone and the computer, plus stop your mail for a week, just like you are on vacation. Only don’t go anywhere, but stay home. To make it fun use discount coupons to local attractions and restaurants. Better yet find some free tours in your area.
Ever Hear of IDA
An IDA is an Individual Development Account. Many people qualify. It is a savings account that helps low-income workers buy homes, cars or start small businesses. You put money in and donated dollars match your contribution 1:1 or 1:2.
Ditch the Gym and Work Out at Home
The title says it all. Try yoga, stretching, workout tapes or your own plan for working out at home. Try taking walks. Walking is one of the healthiest things a person can do and it is free. If your goal in the gym is to maintain muscle tone and burn calories you don’t need the gym. That’s a savings of $800 to $1500 a year.
Use Term Life Insurance
Too many people are unnecessarily taking out Whole Life Policies. Most people don’t need them. With term insurance you can get a lot more for a lot less. You can take out 30 year term insurance and save over $500 per year. A 30 year policy will cover the mortgage period and the kids growing up years! You should not be trying to make your kids rich with insurance, it is mostly there for expenses, and lost income if you die.
Quit Smoking
Yes I know you may feel addicted but think of the savings. A pack of Marlboros at day costs over $1800 per year.
Raise Your Deductibles
Don’t be so afraid of life and disaster happening so much. Raise your deductible on your homeowners and car insurance and you will save big bucks every year. I’ve done this on all of my stuff.
Drive Less
AAA estimates that if you drive a mere 15% less you will save $1200 a year, on average, in car expenses. Many people are unnecessarily driving. Double up on your duties when you are out and don’t go out on every little whim. The added benefit to this is that if we all do this there will be less accidents and lower insurance all around.
Haggle for Prices
Don’t always pay full price. If you are dealing with the store owner or manager you can many time ask for a lower price, especially if you agree to pay cash. Never pay full price for a car or stereo especially. You can even haggle many times on rent, apparel and food. Call your credit card companies and tell them you are pitching the card unless they give you a lower rate. That works almost every time.
