High Debt Causes More Than Just Debt-Be Debt Free

Americans have more debt today than ever before – and that debt is growing! We have become so steeped in instant gratification that we habitually spend more money than we earn and sadly, that has become an accepted practice.  On average, the typical American family has about $8,000 in credit card debt, although many families have much more than that.  In the last year alone, we spent more than $2 trillion swiping those plastic cards.  Even our kids our starting their adult lives with credit card debt.  Approximately 80% of college graduates end their college career with credit card debt.  These could begin a cycle of financial burden that they never get out of.

Credit card debt is just one symptom of the overall problem though.  We live in houses our parents would never have dreamed of purchasing, we drive cars we can’t afford, and many of us think we have to have the latest gadget the moment it hits the stores.  When you add our lack of discipline to the economical factors we can’t control, like the high price of food and fuel, most of us are living from paycheck to paycheck, just one disaster away from bankruptcy.

What happens when this debt snowball gets rolling is that the all consuming debt affects every area of our lives – not just our wallets.  We’re tired from working so much just to pay the bills so we spend much of our time irritable and rushing around just trying to catch up.  We eat out far too often simply because we’re too tired to cook every night, which leads to an entirely new set of problems and increases our debt.

Many of us are too tired to exercise so we spend our evenings plopped in front of the TV and shoo the kids away when they get too loud.  We’re not taking care of our bodies and our health suffers.  If we had the time to worry about all the things we’re neglecting, we’d be a nervous wreck!

A large part of this site is on debt because it is because we are in debt, to a large degree anyway, that we are neglecting other important areas of our lives.  If we could just be debt free, we would have more time and energy to devote to other areas of our lives and we would be happier and healthier to boot!

We’ll  continuously look at what we can do to become debt free and simplify our lives so that we have time and energy for the things that are really important.

Isn’t it time to make a change?

Unless you get lucky you simply cannot make a lot of money quickly. Only a fool will believe you can. But you can turn $5 a day into at least $100 a day long term. That will go a long way to getting you out of debt.
